What is the Startup Grant?

The startup grant (Gründungszuschuss) is state funding for founders who wish to start a business from unemployment (unemployment benefit I). The goal is to financially support living costs and social security in the critical startup phase.

Important: There is no legal entitlement. Therefore, a first-class business plan and a positive viability certificate are prerequisites for approval.

Questions about the Startup Grant

Persons who receive unemployment benefit I (ALG I) and still have at least 150 days of entitlement when starting self-employment are eligible. The institution has discretionary power.
First 6 months: Last received unemployment benefit I amount + 300 euros monthly. Subsequent 9 months: Only 300 euros monthly (via additional application for social security).
The application must be requested from your responsible advisor at the Employment Agency (Arbeitsagentur) BEFORE the official business registration.

No, the classic grant is only for ALG I. For those receiving Bürgergeld, 'entry money' (Einstiegsgeld) provided by the Jobcenter is available. We are also by your side in this process.
