A negative decision from your house bank or the KfW is a shock for many founders. Often it's not due to the quality of the business idea, but the commercial preparation in the business plan. We show you the 5 most critical mistakes and how to avoid them.
1. Unrealistic revenue planning
The so-called "hockey stick curve" – revenues that shoot up steeply after a short time – is the most common reason for a shake of the head from bankers. Plan conservatively. Solid organic growth appears far more professional than utopias that lack any commercial foundation.
2. Missing liquidity buffer
Banks do not finance companies that are insolvent after three months. Your 3-year financial plan must show that you can bridge dry spells (illness, late customer payments). Always plan an adequate buffer for unforeseen expenses.
"Your business plan is not a sales brochure. It is a commercial document that must identify and debunk risks."
3. Unclear target audience & marketing strategy
"My product is for everyone." Anyone who thinks this way is burning through their marketing budget. Banks want to see that you know exactly who your customers are (Buyer Persona) and through which channels you can reach them cost-effectively (Customer Acquisition Cost).
4. Lack of founder qualifications
The bank is not just investing in an idea, but in you as a person. If you lack commercial knowledge or industry experience, the bank categorizes the risk as too high. Here, a certificate of completed founding consultation (AVGS) can work wonders.
5. Missing Expert Opinion (Viability)
Without an external commercial audit, your plan is often just a piece of paper for the bank. As a recognized Expert Authority, we check your project thoroughly and issue the certificates required by banks and employment agencies.
